How to judge the quality of UPS batteries?
Jul 17, 2024| The electrodes of a battery are composed of lead and lead oxide, and the electrolyte is an aqueous solution of sulfuric acid. Batteries have advantages such as stable voltage and low price.
1. At the end of the battery life, a multimeter and an ammeter can be used to test voltage and current, but their values are very low, and the battery's function decreases accordingly. Short circuits and open circuits may occur inside the battery, and a new battery should be replaced as needed.
2. In practical use, if the discharge capacity of a battery is less than about 60% of its rated capacity, and its function cannot be restored after repair, it needs to be scrapped. Usually, after the capacity of the battery declines to around 60%, its function will also significantly decline, and it will soon lose all its charging and discharging capabilities.
3. During battery charging, there is severe heating and deformation of the casing. When the electrode plates of the battery soften and deform, the active substance will fall off, and the electrolyte inside the battery will turn black, and even fail to recover. When the battery capacity is insufficient or fails, it is necessary to use and maintain the battery correctly to improve its service life.
How to determine the quality of UPS batteries? There are the following points:
1. Test voltage: Use a multimeter to measure the voltage of the battery. If the voltage is within the normal range (usually 12V-14V), it indicates that the battery is working properly.
2. Test load capacity: By conducting a load test on the battery, test whether the battery can continue to operate under load. If the battery cannot operate normally under load, it means that the battery needs to be replaced.
3. Pay attention to the charging cycle: UPS batteries need to be charged regularly to maintain battery power and prevent damage from prolonged storage. If the battery cannot function properly after charging, it means that the battery needs to be replaced.
4. Pay attention to the appearance of the battery: If the battery is severely deformed or leaking, it may be damaged and needs to be replaced.
Regular testing and maintenance of UPS batteries are key to ensuring their proper functioning.
